v4.1+ Snare Agents are incompatible with Windows 2000

The version 4.1 series of Snare Agents and onwards, do not work with Windows 2000. The error message when either installing or executing is as follows:

Runtime Error
Cannot import dll....SnareWindowsInstallSupport.dll

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 2000 since its end of life in 2010.

The last known Snare Agents to work with Windows 2000 are:

  • the Enterprise version of Snare for Windows agent v4.0.2.2 (available upon request via Snare Support)

  • the OpenSource versions of Snare for Windows agent v4.0.2. (available from SourceForge).

  • the Enterprise version of Snare Epilog for Windows agent v1.6.0 (available upon request via Snare Support)

** Note that Windows NT is also incompatible with Snare for Windows Agents from version 3.1.
