The Snare Enterprise Agent for MSSQL User Guide is available from the releases directory or from your SLDM portal.
Monitor a specific SQL Instance
Under the chapter Objectives Configuration of the user guide, information on how to configure a sql instance is described. By default when the objective is configured on a non clustered system, it will monitor all SQL instances on that host unless a restriction is added to a specific instance. On clustered systems the installer attaches an agent to each instance in that cluster so it can migrate around the cluster as needed.
In the Objective Configuration screen the key part is at the top of the objective settings and is set as follows.
Identify the MS SQL instance to be monitored: Specifies the MS SQL instance to be monitored. For local default installations of MSSQL, leave this field as “(local)”. For named instances use the notation “.\InstanceName”, where “InstanceName” is the name of the instance to be monitored.
