Listeners
This page displays the ports and protocols on which the Snare Reflector is listening for incoming events.
The Snare Reflector Listeners cannot be modified at this point in time. By default, Snare Reflector listens on the following ports:
Port Number | Protocol |
514 | TCP |
514 | UDP |
6161 | TCP |
6161 | UDP |
6163 | TLS |
6164 | TLS_AUTH |
6514 | TLS |
During installation of Snare Reflector, the Snare Installer will automatically detect if any programs are using these ports and select the next available free port. For example if another Snare product such as the Snare Agent for Windows is installed then it may use port 6161 for its Web Server. The Snare Reflector installer will then use port 6162 to listen for TCP and UDP connections as shown in the installation dialog box below:
If it is important for your installation that Snare Reflector be able to listen on port 6161, then you must login to the Snare Agent for Windows web server and modify the Web Server port number before installing Snare Reflector.
Similarly by default Snare for MSSQL uses port 6163 for its Web Server port. Once again, this port can be changed by logging into the Snare for MSSQL web server.
The status of each listener is displayed as either active or inactive. All listener ports should display as active by default. However if another program is later installed and after rebooting, this program starts before the Snare Reflector service, then Snare Reflector may be unable to obtain this port.
Note
Once the Snare Reflector is installed, the listener ports can not be modified via the user interface. However for advanced users only, it is possible to change the listener ports after installing Snare Reflector by modifying their values stored in the Windows Registry.
Find the Snare Reflector service by selecting Services from the Administrative Tools or Computer Management menus and scrolling down until you find the Snare Reflector entry.
Select "Stop the service"
Start the Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intersect Alliance\Snare Reflector\Input
Change the port number of the Listener that you are interested in.
Exit the Registry Editor and select "Start the service"
