In place upgrade (MSI Builder - SAM Licensing) - Single or multiple system upgrades using .msi

Pre-requisites

Note: The MSI builder has dependencies on other tools that will need installing prior to running, specifically the WIX toolset . Please ensure the pre-requisites for the MSI builder have been followed at this link: Requirements - Snare MSI Documentation v3 - Confluence (atlassian.net)

Steps

  1. Download the installation media for both Snare MSI builder and Snare Enterprise agent to a machine with the Snare Enterprise agent installed.

  2. Extract the MSI builder and place the Enterprise agent installation media in the same directory, along with the “template.inf” extracted above.

  3. Run the MSI builder as administrator.

  4. The MSI builder will detect the local install of the Enterprise agent, type the number “1” and press enter.

  5. At the “Agent Configuration Method” prompt, type the number “2” and press enter.

  6. At the “Upgrade or Reinstall” prompt, type the number “2” and press enter.

  7. At the “Select installer” prompt, enter the number “1” or corresponding number to the installation media you would like to use (if there is more than one agent .exe in the directory) and press enter.

  8. At the “Select License file” prompt, enter the number “2” and press enter.

  9. The new installation media will now be generated and the .msi file placed in the MSI builder directory.

  10. Using internal deployment tools, such as GPO, SCCM, Big Fix etc, deploy the installation media to systems running the SecureWorks agent. The Enterprise agent will replace the SecureWorks agent, utilise the embedded policies from the configuration export and retrieve a license from SAM.
